Agenda for Change

Inclusive. Informed. Inspired.

Beginning in the Fall 2005, United Way for Southeastern Michigan launched an unparalleled community engagement and visioning effort, enabling over 7,000 metro residents to share their voice.  This included almost 100 leadership interviews, 30 community forums, 6,500 community action survey respondents (more than 1,000 through our 2-1-1 service line), and over 5,000 staff, volunteer and community hours of work.

As a result, an aspiration was identified by the region which powerfully states:

All people across southeastern Michigan have the educational
and economic opportunities needed to succeed and thrive.

In addition, the community indicated that to achieve progress on the aspiration, three goal areas are critical to long-term regional success:

  • Educational Preparedness – People are ready to succeed
  • Financial Stability – People are self-sufficient and secure
  • Basic Needs – People are supported in times of crisis
